Since the Suffolk Iron Foundry

Welding Britain,
since 1900.

The SIF story doesn't start with a catalogue — it starts with Sifbronze, the low-temperature bronze-welding process that built racing cars, aircraft, ships and tunnels. The same engineering credibility now backs every line we sell.

01 — Origins

From a Suffolk foundry to the welding trade's backbone.

SIF began as the Suffolk Iron Foundry. In its workshops, Sifbronze welding was developed — a bronze-welding technique that joined steel at a low enough temperature to avoid distortion, preserving the strength of thin-walled, lightweight structures.

That single innovation put SIF at the centre of British manufacturing for the rest of the century: motorsport, aviation, shipbuilding, rail, civil engineering and defence all leaned on Sifbronze and the consumables that followed it.

Today Weldability SIF is a trade-only manufacturer and wholesaler — but the SIF name on a reel of wire still carries that hundred-year engineering heritage.

02 — Motorsport · Jaguar D-Type

Bronze-welded to win at Le Mans.

The Jaguar D-Type's tubular chassis was crafted from Reynolds 531 steel tubes, joined with Sifbronze No. 1 welding rods — chosen because the low-temperature process created precise, distortion-free joints without weakening the thin-walled steel.

The result was a chassis under 60 lbs yet strong enough for endurance racing. Drivers like Mike Hawthorn pushed the D-Type to its limits at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, relying on the integrity of every bronze-welded joint. It remains one of the clearest demonstrations of why Sifbronze mattered: strength and precision, with no penalty in weight.

03 — Restoration · Triumph Dolomite

A grille in sixteen pieces, made whole again.

When a Triumph Dolomite radiator grille arrived at J. White & Sons broken into sixteen pieces with parts missing, restoring it seemed almost impossible.

The intricate, chrome-plated design demanded precision few processes could offer. Sifbronze welding — and the craftsmanship to apply it — brought the grille back to its original glory, preserving a piece of British automotive heritage that would otherwise have been lost.
