0.8mm SIFMIG 5356 Aluminium MIG Wire 2.0kg
The correct aluminium MIG wire depends on the parent material, the strength required, whether the weld will be anodised and the service environment. The two most commonly used grades are 4043 and 5356.
4043 provides excellent weldability, a smooth weld appearance and good crack resistance. 5356 offers higher tensile strength, better corrosion resistance and is often preferred where the weld will be anodised.
Choose 5356 when greater weld strength is required, improved corrosion resistance is needed, or when the welded component will be anodised after fabrication.
4043 is commonly selected for general aluminium fabrication where ease of welding, smooth bead appearance and reduced crack sensitivity are priorities.
The correct filler wire depends on the parent alloy. Always identify the aluminium grade before selecting a filler wire to ensure the required mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are achieved.
Cracking can result from using an unsuitable filler wire, excessive heat input, poor joint preparation or contamination of the parent material.
Pure argon is the most commonly used shielding gas for aluminium MIG welding, providing a stable arc and good weld quality across many applications.
Aluminium wire is softer than steel and requires correctly adjusted drive rollers, suitable liners and smooth wire feeding equipment to minimise feeding problems.
Aluminium MIG wire is widely used in transport, automotive, marine, fabrication, aerospace support industries, architectural work and general manufacturing.
Before selecting an aluminium MIG wire, identify: the aluminium alloy being welded, the strength required, whether the component will be anodised, the service environment, and the welding equipment being used.
