This tells you whether the arm physically gets to the work. Whether it actually controls the fume depends on airflow and duct design, which is a separate calculation. Treat it as a specification aid, not a guarantee of control.

Position matters more than length

How close the hood sits to the arc is the single biggest factor in whether an arm performs. How extraction arms work covers the distances to aim for.

What this tool doesn't cover

Availability, lead time and price all sit outside it. The white-finish option in particular is non-stock and takes longer to deliver, so it's worth asking before you commit to a date.
