The correct alloy TIG filler rod depends on the parent material, the required mechanical properties and the service conditions the welded component will operate in.
Choose an alloy TIG filler rod when welding alloy steels or where higher strength, improved toughness, heat resistance or specific mechanical properties are required.
In most applications, yes. Matching the filler rod helps maintain the required weld strength, toughness and long-term performance.
For critical applications, this is generally not recommended. Using an incorrect filler rod may reduce the mechanical properties of the weld and could lead to premature failure.

Store filler rods in a clean, dry environment and keep them free from moisture, oil and other contaminants before welding.
