SIFTIG Mild Steel Welding Rods
The correct filler rod depends on the parent material, its surface condition and the mechanical properties required from the finished weld. For most fabrication work, standard mild steel filler rods provide excellent results.
ER70S-2 contains additional deoxidising elements, making it well suited to welding steels with light mill scale or minor contamination. ER70S-6 is commonly selected for clean mild steel and general fabrication.
Choose ER70S-2 when welding material that isn't perfectly clean or where additional deoxidisers help produce sound welds with reduced porosity.
The correct diameter depends on the material thickness, welding current and joint design. Using the appropriate rod diameter improves weld pool control and overall weld quality.
