For me, it's the small things like the torch spares and accessories, things like contact tips, nozzles, gas diffusers. Relatively inexpensive, but they have a huge impact on the weld quality and productivity. A worn contact tip can cause poor wire feeding, unstable arc, unnecessary downtime, that sort of thing.
So replacing these small items regularly is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to keep your welding running smoothly. It's also a good idea to make sure that you have a good amount in the cupboard, just left in stock. There's nothing worse than a 20p contact tip stopping a big job because you've got no more left.
So just make sure you've got a handy amount left over at all times.
