Upgrading a mild steel MIG wire to a copper-free version costs a little more on the reel, but you earn it back in less spatter to clean up, less rework and fewer front-end spares — so the cheapest wire often isn't.

So, a big mistake we see people make is not looking at the cost of the job and just the cost of the consumable. So, if you was to take a mild steel MIG wire and upgrade it to a copper free version, you may spend a little bit more on the reel, but you'll earn that money back in less spatter to clean up, so less rework, less front end spares needing changing. There's no copper plates going into them, that sort of thing.
So, we recommend always looking at the best tool for the job rather than what is the cheapest because that might actually save you money in the long run.
